Suspicious device turns out to be ‘Star Wars’ toy

A suspicious device, possibly a pipe bomb, on the train trestle behind the Vet’s Club, 580 Main St., turned out to be a taped plastic lightsaber toy.

A caller reported what was believed to be a pipe bomb at 12:11 p.m. on Aug. 10.

Sweet Home police officers secured the area, photographed the device and contacted the Oregon State Police Explosives Unit.

“We had a render-safe procedure and determined it wasn’t an (explosive) device,” said OSP Det. Mike Blank.

The device was removed at approximately 2:15 p.m.
