The intersection of Long Street and Mountain View Road was closed for approximately three hours this morning.
The Sweet Home Police Department received a report of a suspicious item at the intersection of Long Street and Mountain View Road at approximately 10:28 a.m.
The report was initiated by a citizen who had been walking in the area.
An officer responded and located an item the size of milk jug that had a fuse extending from it on the southeast corner of the intersection, near the sidewalk.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Disposal Unit safely removed the item, which was discovered to have been an illegal firework that had been placed in a plastic container.
