Sutherlin rolls over SH in girls’ league opener

Opening league play Friday, the high school girls basketball team had a tough time getting things going in the first half and lost to Sutherlin 59-26.

The Bulldogs built a 19-4 lead in the first quarter and were ahead 30-8 at halftime.

Led by Kayla Miller, with eight of her 12 points, the Huskies came alive in the third quarter and scored 18 to trail 46-26 headed into the fourth quarter when Sutherlin held the Huskies scoreless.

Miller led scoring for the Huskies, and Rachel Busek added another six points.

Around the league, Junction City beat Elmira 46-30, and Cottage Grove beat Sisters 51-16.

The Huskies were scheduled to travel to Sisters Tuesday. They will host Elmira at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Cottage Grove at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 23.
