Sweet Home-area students graduate from universities

The University of Oregon announced two Sweet Home-area graduates in the class who were among the 5,067 students receiving degrees on June 13.

They are: Caitlyn Marie May, who is graduating with a bachelor of science in journalism, and Sterling Grant Tucker, who earned a bachelor of arts in English with a Film Studies certificate.

Fourteen local students were among the record 6,406 graduates who received degrees June 11 from Oregon State University,

OSU is one of the few large universities in the nation to hand out students’ actual diplomas during the commencement ceremony.

Local graduates included the following:

Jackson P. Baer, bachelor of arts, English; Amanda R. Bliege, bachelor of science, human development and family sciences; Jeffrey A. Burdine, bachelor of science, recreation resource management; Caila B. Caudle, bachelor of science, human development and family sciences; Hailey M. Fisher, bachelor of science, human development and family sciences; Jamie S. Frick, bachelor of arts, summa cum laude, history; Emma R. Hessel, bachelor of arts, cum laude, art; Kyle S. Hummer, bachelor of science, sociology; Kaitlyn M. Long, bachelor of science, human development and family sciences; Miren E. Mattson, bachelor of science, human development and family sciences; Haley R. McLaren, bachelor of science, cum laude, human development and family sciences; Kimber E. Parker, bachelor of arts, cum laude, music; Carissa E. Swanson, bachelor of science, public health; and Amber D. Yeager, master of science, counseling.
