Sweet Home boy injured in boating accident

A 14-year-old Sweet Home boy was taken to Oregon Health Sciences University by a REACH Air Medical Services helicopter Sunday afternoon following a boating accident on Foster Lake Sunday afternoon.

Medics and deputies responded at about 2:30 p.m. to the reported accident.

A mother and her son were boating on the lake in a 1988 Reinell boat, said Sheriff Tim Mueller.

The mother, Cheryl Jones, 37, of Sweet Home was operating the boat and towing her son, Brandon, on a ski tube when he fell off into the lake.

When Jones returned to pick him up, the boat’s propeller struck Brandon, causing cuts to his back, Mueller said.

Personnel from the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District treated the boy at the scene.

Medics took Brandon to Husky Field where he was loaded onto a REACH helicopter and transported to OHSU in Portland.

His current condition is unknown, Mueller said.

The incident remains under investigation, he said.
