Sweet Home celebrates beginning of the Christmas season

Jan Barthel turns pages while Bill Langdon accompanies the Singing Christmas Tree on the piano during Sweet Home’s Christmas holiday weekend Dec. 5-7. Activities included the annual Christmas parade on Saturday morning, bazaars, the Christmas Tree Auction, the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and more. Parade winners were:

raternal Organizations: AmVets, first place; VFW, second place.

Commercial Organizations: Avamere Rehab and Specialty Care (Twin Oaks), first; Wal-Mart, second; A&W Restaurant, third.

Religious: Fir Lawn Lutheran, first; MOPS, second.

Animal/Horse: Rhinestone Riders, first.

Courts: Sportsman’s Holiday Court and Sweet Home Rodeo Court, tie for first; South Santiam Sweet Potato Queens, second; Benton County Fair and Rodeo Queen, third.

Marching: Sweet Home Junior High Dance Team, first; Sweet Home High School Dance Team, second; Sweet Home High School Basketball, third.

Other mentionable entries: Distinguished Citizen Chuck Thompson, American Cancer Society, Sweet Home Ranger District, Lincoln County Shriner Renegades, Rep. Sherrie Sprenger, Mayor Craig Fentiman, Citizen of the Year Billie Weber, BPW Woman of the Year Leita Seiber-Barr, Business of the Year Steelhead Strength and Fitness and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michelle Anderson.
