The Sweet Home softball team (6-13) lost two home games to the top two squads in the Oregon West Conference last week, falling to Cascade 10-6 on Wednesday and Stayton 9-3 on Thursday.
Of the game against Cascade (13-5), Head Coach Emily Marchbanks said “Losing is always hard, but they’re a good team, and we competed well and have been consistently improving, especially with our offense. In general, I think that we are being more aggressive when we’re hitting, and consistently putting the ball in play more than we were at the beginning of the year.”
On the Stayton (20-3, No. 3) game, the coach said “As a team I feel like we’ve been competing harder against the better teams lately.
“Stayton’s obviously very good this year, and we did a good job of trying to compete with them and battle. Sometimes you lose and sometimes you just get beat.”
On Monday, May 8, Sweet Home lost 12-9 at Newport (12-10). Statistics for all three games were not available by press time.
Going into the final week of the season, Sweet Home is fourth in the OWC, two games behind Newport.
In the final week of the regular season, the Huskies play at North Marion (1-16) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, before hosting Philomath (5-17) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 11.
