Sweet Home FFA enjoys spring bounty

The Sweet Home chapter of Future Farmers of America has accomplished and seen a lot over the last few months.

First, we attended the March 16-19 Oregon FFA State Convention in Redmond, where we received our chapter’s charter, a huge achievement.

Then we participated in the April 27 Upper Willamette District Field Day at the Lebanon Land Lab with our poultry, meats, and milk products teams. We earned seven placement banners, which included second place in advanced poultry, third in advanced and beginning meats, second in advanced milk products, and third in beginning milk products. We also competed in crops just for fun and received second in beginning and third in advanced.

The following week we headed to Oregon State University with our poultry, meats, and milk products teams, finishing in the Top 10 for each.

Our 2022-23 banquet took place May 16. We certified our greenhand members and installed our new officer team for 2023-24.

We also distributed awards to two honorary members, Heather Wright and Travis Miller, and gave the Distinguished Services Award to Boshart Trucking, which supported our chapter before the school year began by donating money to lower the cost for our state convention and make it possible for our officer team to attend a summer retreat.

Two days later, our FFA forestry team attended the district competition, where we took second in advanced and beginning classifications. Next Monday, the team is headed to state.

We are so thankful for all these people who made it possible for our chapter to come as far as it has. We have had a very successful year, especially as a first year chapter. And we plan to continue this into next year!
