Sweet Home loses three to Central, Stayton in baseball

Central 7, Sweet Home 2

Game one of doubleheader

Central defeated the Husky baseball team 7-2 and 16-4 in a doubleheader at Sweet Home on Saturday.

“We played very well defensively in this game, committing no errors,” Coach Dan Tow said. “We hit the ball fairly well, but I felt we should have had more offense than we did. They had a couple more hits than us, and they got the big hits you need to drive in runs.

“Derrick Ward had a nice day at the plate, and Kyle Pettit is swinging the bat well.”

Robby Wallace was losing pitcher. Greg Sipe pitched in relief.

Thompson was winning pitcher.

At bat Kyle Pettit went 1-3 with a solo home run. Adam Hummer and Ward each went 2-3.

For Central, Pratt and Heide both had home runs.

Game two of doubleheader

Central defeated Sweet Home 16-4 in the second game.

“We played well for three innings, and then the wheels kind of fell off,” Tow said. “We play well in stretches, but we need to just keep at it and eventually, if we can remain focused and keep working hard, things will start to turn around. We just need to work hard and keep fighting.”

Pettit was losing pitcher. Sipe and Brett Miller pitched in relief.

Heine was winning pitcher.

Pettit went 2-4 with a double and RBI. Joe Ellis and Skyler Bascom went 1-2, and Chaz Davis, Adam Matuszak and Trevor Tagle went 1-1.

Stayton 5, Sweet Home 1

Stayton defeated the Huskies 5-1 at Stayton on April 6.

“We played a decent defensive game,” Tow said. “We just couldn’t get much production offensively. We made contact but really didn’t get many solid hits. We need to be able to put it all together with pitching, defense and offense to have more success.

“Brett Miller and Adam Matuszak turned a big double play in the third inning with bases loaded to keep the game tied at zero at that point in the game.”

Pettit went 1-3 with a solo home run. Matuszak went 1-3.

Losing pitcher was Hummer. Pettit pitched in relief.

Campbell was winning pitcher. Stoyles pitched in relief.
