LCSO reported the incident began when a caller reported a reckless driver on Spicer Drive near Tallman Road headed toward Lebanon. The vehicle was initially reported as swerving all over the road and driving in the center of both travel lanes. OSP and LCSO were notified to look for the vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle driving south on Bellinger Scale Road as the deputy was traveling north. They passed at a high rate of speed, and OSP caught up to the vehicle before deputies were able to turn around. OSP continued the pursuit until the vehicle crashed at MP 35 on Hwy 20. LCSO deputies were not involved in the close pursuit, only maneuvering to attempt to get in a location ahead of the vehicle to attempt to use intervention tools.
Oregon State Police (OSP) received a backup request from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office (LSCO) regarding a reckless driver at 1:57 p.m. on Friday, June 21.
According to a narrative summary provided by OSP, the suspect’s vehicle was located on Berlin Road near Upper Berlin Road when officers attempted to initiate a stop. The vehicle began to elude, and failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens. OSP pursued the vehicle and the driver eventually crashed near milepost 35 on Highway 20.
The suspect, Glenn Lloyd Gatliff, 69, of Sweet Home, was taken into custody for attempting to elude. Linn County deputies lodged the suspect in jail for reckless driving and reckless endangering. He is being charged with reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and six counts of recklessly endangering another person.
The suspect’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
