Sweet Home Mat Club wrestlers deliver big finish to season

Sweet Home’s young wrestlers have had a big year, culminating with a big finish Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, at the Oregon Wrestling Association Kids Folkstyle State Championships.

Earlier, Sweet Home produced two first-place winners and a host of placewinners at the Oregon Classic, on Jan. 15.

Both Cody Sieminski, wrestling in the 12 and Under 78-pound division, and Macen Rosa, wrestling at 12 and Under 108 pounds, won individual championships at both tournaments.

Jesse Landtroop was also an individual state champion four the boys, in the 14 and Under 97-pound division.

In the girls championships, Kassidy Zajic took home an individual title for Sweet Home at 12 and Under 75 pounds, while AvaMarie Gaspard finished third at 12U 85.

Sweet Home Mat Club placed fourth out of 134 teams represented at the event.

Second-place finishers at state for the Sweet Home boys were: Jasper Victor at 14U 114; Ben Brouilette at 8U 62; and Brayden Rowe at 10U 120+.

Finishing third at state were Elijah Cruz at 14U 149 and Ryder Farris at 12U 58.

Kyle Zajic was fourth at 16U 138; Sawyer Davis was fifth at 6U 40; Chase Weikel was fifth at 6U 43; and Dylan Hartsook was sixth at 14U 149.

Oregon Classic

Behind Sieminski’s and Rosa’s first-place finishes, Sweet Home had seven placewinners for the boys and three for the girls.

Jesse Landtroop was third at 14U 97 and Ben Brouilette was third at 8U 70.

Walker Farris was fourth at 8U 43, and Ryder Farris was fifth at 12U 58.

Finishing sixth were Matthew Jorgensen at 12U 67, Brodie Starha at 12U 135 and Grayson Parr at 8U 49.

For the girls, Kenley Jackola was second at 10U 70, AvaMarie Gaspard third at 12U 85 and Amaya Smith fourth at 12U 95.
