Sweet Home High School senior Keegan Legg was the winner of the Future Business Leaders of America Cyber Security state competition last month.

The competition included some 1,000 students from across the state.

“He scored very, very high. Higher than I have seen recently,” said Michael Morrell, FBLA team adviser and business education teacher at the high school.

“I’m glad, I guess,” Legg said.

Legg was the only first-place winner of the 12 Sweet Home team members who competed.

Jessica King and Ellen Coulter were Sweet Home’s other placewinners, tying for eighth in the business ethics competition.

Unlike others members, who were tested at the competition in Portland, Legg took his at Sweet Home High School. His test consisted of 100 questions that all dealt with cyber security.

“It’s encryptions, algorithms and other stuff,” said Legg. “It’s security in computers. It’s hard to explain.”

Last year he took fourth place in cyber security at the state level and advanced onto the national level, where he did not place.

The team has been been preparing for the state competition since the beginning of the year. Legg himself has been involved in FBLA for three years. This year was his first state competition where he placed first.

“It’s a huge honor,” Morrell said.
