This week concluded the season for the Sweet Home Softball team (10-15). The team is currently sitting 27th out of 31 in the state, getting third in the 4A-3 Oregon West Conference.
The team walked away this week with a 3-1 record, starting with a double-header May 8, versus North Marion (5-17). Due to the increase in cancellations, the team saw back-to-back games, with the first one ending closely with 4-5 and the following game ending 13-1. The team struggled in the first game with their hitting, something they took note of and dramatically improved going into the next game.
In between these games, the Sweet Home softball team was able to recognize their seniors. Along with their recognition, Radiator Supply House was able to sponsor a free barbecue for the event.

“The girls played hard,” Head Coach Emily Marchbanks said. “They came back against North Marion in the second game, which was good.”
Following the win against North Marion, the girls played away against Philomath/Alsea (1-22). This game ended in victory for the Huskies with the final score being 12-7.
The week finished, with a rescheduled game versus Newport (5-19), which finalized the team’s league play, ending 16-8. Marchbanks attributed this win to the hard work the girls did with each of their jobs, ultimately coming together as a team in the end.

Although the season may be over, Marchbanks said there’s still more in store for the girls. They’ll be hosting open gyms over the summer, with an undecided play in game in the works.
