Sweet Home Swim Club members place at state, regionals

Two Sweet Home Swim Club swimmers swam in the 2019 Northwest Region Age Group Championships March 22-24 in Federal Way, Wash. after qualifying by placing at the Oregon state 11-14 age group championships.

Kirsten Sautel was eighth in the 50 Breaststroke finals in Federal Way, in 35.01; after a sixth-place (34.50) in the prelims, and 19th in the 100 Breaststroke preliminaries (1:18.13)

R.J. Abbott was eighth in the 200 Freestyle (2:04.94) finals after swimming 2:02.38 in the prelims.

The meet included teams from all of the western states.

The Sweet Home swimmers qualified at the state chapionships held Feb. 22-24 in Corvallis.

Abbott also placed sixth at the state championships in the 50 Freestyle (26.50), fourth in the 500 Freestyle (5:39.65); 12th in the 50 Breaststroke prelims (35.77), fourth in the 200 Freestyle and 13th in the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.18).

Sautel placed third in the 50 Breaststroke at state (35.20), seventh in the 200 Freestyle (2:17.62), fifth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:39.18), 13th in the 100 IM (1:13.17), ninth in the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.99), and ninth in the 100 Freestyle (1:03.48).

Khloe Sautel qualified for and swam at the 10-and-under Oregon state swimming championships Feb. 9-10 in Springfield. She finished 12th in the 100 Breaststroke (1:42.66), 15th in the 50 Freestyle (36.29) and 17th in the 100 Freestyle (1:19.65).
