Sweet Home swimmers set PRs at short-course championships

Sweet Home Swim Club athletes recently competed in two short-course championship events, posting a slew of lifetime best times.

Kirsten Sautel, Shayne Schuster and Khloe Sautel competed March 13-16 in the 2025 OSUI Arena Senior Championships held at Tualatin Hills Recreational Swim Center.

Kirsten Sautel, who recently signed to compete for the University of Idaho (see related story on page #), placed seventh in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.47), ninth in the 100 Freestyle with a lifetime best of 54.26, 18th in the  200 Breaststroke with a lifetime best of  2:27.85, and 20th in the 50 Freestyle in 25.10, also a lifetime best.

Schuster, also a senior at Sweet Home High School, posted lifetime bests in all four of the events he entered. He finished 43rd in the 200 Breaststroke (2:26.70), 52nd in the 100 Breastroke (1:04.50), 91st in the 200 Individual Medley (2:15.08), and 97th in the 50 Freestyle (24.32).

Khloe Sautel, a freshman at Sweet Home High School, was 14th in the 200 Freestyle in a lifetime best of 2:00.14, 15th in the 500 Freestyle (5:23.12), and 27th in the 100 Freestyle in another lifetime best of 55.79.

11-14 State Championships

Sophie Burns represented Sweet Home at the 2025 OSI Arena 11-14 State Championships, also held at Tualatin Hills Recreational Swim Center  Feb. 27 – March 2.  She was the only Sweet Home club member to compete.

Burns swam five events, but actually had qualified for six, Coach Kelly Sautel said.

Burns placed 14th in the 50 Butterfly (33.89), 16th in the 200 Individual Medley (2:49.92), 19th in the 200 Freestyle (2:34.70), 21st in the 50 Freestyle (31.58), and 22nd in the 100 Individual Medley (1:22.27).
