Sweet Home Oregon Coalition for Art & Scholastic Enrichment (SHOCASE) gave 14 adults and four youth center stage during its annual SHOCASE Showdown Talent Competition at the Sweet Home High School auditorium on Oct. 19.
Talent on display included musical performances, comical illusory, vocalists, original songs and drumming.
“The amount of talent is incredible,” emcee Don Knight said. “Art comes in many ways, music has many genres. We support talent and we support the pursuit of people’s passions in this little community.”
In the youth category, Blake Deleah and Ezekiel Center took first place for their rendition of Metallica’s “Creeping Death,” and comedian illusionist Joshua Bichler snagged the top award among the adults. The People’s Choice went to Kolten Harrison, Mary Johnson, Daylon Thompson and Tristan Young for their performance of Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls.”
Audience members donated 25 cents per vote for the People’s Choice, and the contestant with the most money raised won the honor along. More than $300 was raised among all the contestants. Those funds will be given to the high school’s band program.
Other top winners included David Dominy (3rd, adult), Ellie Dominy (3rd, youth), Ryker Gourley (2nd, youth), and Kolten Harrison, Mary Johnson, Daylon Thompson and Tristan Young (2nd, adult).
