Well over 100 people turned out Saturday to run or walk in the second annual Sweetheart Run at Sankey Park.
Katie Wilcox, an organizer, said she had received a number of thumbs-ups from runners, who came from as far away as Vancouver, Wash. City staff organized the event, which raised money for summer programs at the Sweet Home Boys & Girls Club and city parks.
The rain held off during the event, which started at 10 a.m.
“Everybody was happy the weather held,” Wilcox said.
In addition to the runs, vendors offered their wares in the park and on Weddle Bridge and runners got a biscuits-and gravy-brunch.
Wesley Anderson of Sweet Home won the 10K and Scott Swanson, also of Sweet Home, was the first finisher in the 5K. Top women were Dale Looney of Philomath in the 5K and Brenda Legee of Lebanon in the 10K.
Times seemed slow for some, but Wilcox said some runners with GPS watches reported that the course might have been about a quarter-mile too long.
A mile run for children attracted 21 participants, bringing the total to 136. Results were not recorded for the mile.
