Sweetheart Run Saturday at Sankey

The annual Sweetheart Run begins at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Feb. 8, in Sankey Park, 877 14th Ave.

Trophies will be given out in three children’s divisions, 0-10 years old, 11-14 and 15-19. Adult trophies will go to those ages 20-29 and for each decade through 69, with another trophy for those 70 and older.

The run features a 5k and a 10k course, with some slight changes from last year’s courses, said Angela Clegg, planning associate with the City of Sweet Home.

Spring Burr, of Steelhead Fitness, will lead warmups at 9:30 a.m., prior to the race.

With snow falling around the date of last year’s run, the 2019 race attracted about 50 participants, Clegg said. She is anticipating 100 or more this year.

Following the run, The Point Restaurant is providing chili, vegetable soup and cornbread. Sunshine Espresso is providing coffee supplies, and Ginny’s Pastry Shack is selling refreshments.

Pre-registration is closed. The cost to join the run is $30 for the 5K, $40 for the 10K. The run is $10 for kids with a t-shirt and free for kids without a t-shirt. Registration is available at shsweetheartrun.weebly.com.

The event is sponsored by the City of Sweet Home and the Rotary Club, Clegg said, along with a grant from the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund, to benefit youth programs.

Clegg said event organizers are still seeking volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering or seeking additional information may contact her at (541) 367-8113.
