Local runners and walkers are invited to turn out for the third annual Sweetheart Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Sankey Park.
The event starts with a free 1-mile kids fun run for children 10 and under, so the whole family can participate. Kids will receive their own bib, finisher’s medal, and a surprise goodie bag.
The kids run will be followed by 5K and 10K competitions, at 10:30 a.m. on the streets of Sweet Home and the South Hills trail.
Depending on weather, the courses could be changed if flooding occurs, organizer Katie Wilcox said.
“Rain or shine, we’re going for it,” she said.
All finishers get medals and the top three in each age group for the 5K and the 10K will get special awards. The overall 5 and 10K winners will receive a crown or tiara.
Pre-race day discounts are available.
Proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club Summer Program, providing scholarships for children who cannot afford to participate. For information on cost or to sign up, visit shsweetheartrun.weebly.com.
After the races, the now-traditional brunch of biscuits and gravy will be served, thanks to support from Siletz Tribal Charitable Contributions.
Also, vendors will be present to sell love- and Valentine’s Day-themed items.
