After two years of not having the pool available for two and a half months in the spring, the Sweet Home Swim Club is mostly in a rebuilding year, Coach Rene Kirkland said.
“A few kids will qualify for state, mostly older kids this year,” Coach Kirkland said.
The Swim Club has about 26 active swimmers who compete in tournaments throughout the spring and summer.
The team will have three league meets, which are targeted toward new swimmers or swimmers with little competition experience.
They include Mikaela Stoner, Elric Benson, Natasha Benson, Brittany Crompton, Ryan Richards, Sten Weld, Samantha Claborn, Samantha Webb and Lucas Rassbach. Their first tournament was in Corvallis on May 28.
They competed again in Philomath on June 24. Results follow. They compete again on July 7 in Lebanon.
Teams involved include Philomath, Corvallis Aquatic Team, Albany Aquatics, Dallas Blue Dolphins, Lebanon Aquatic Club and Sweet Home Swim Club.
The Swim Club, in general, competes next on July 9-11 in Eugene. The state championships are on July 28 to Aug. 1 at Mt. Hood Community College. The 10 and under state qualifier is July 17-18 in Albany
