Sweet Home’s girls, missing some top swimmers, still managed a second-place finish to Tillamook Friday, Jan. 13, while the boys placed third behind Newport and Philomath.
Coach Doug Peargin was just happy to see his swimmers in lanes by themselves.
“After having half our meets canceled because of weather, it was nice to finally get a meet in,” he said. “Newport and Tillamook are the power teams on the coast and it’s nice to see how we fare against them at this point in the season.”
Despite the absences in the lineup, “the ones who went to Newport swam pretty well,” Peargin said.
Cameron Taber, in particular, stood out for the boys, setting personal bests in all four of his swims.
Sweet Home’s next outing will be Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Albany Swim Meet at South Albany High School.
The meet starts at 8 a.m. and Peargin expects to see all the teams in the district, weather permitting.
