Swimmers place in state meet

Jayce Calhoon took second place in the 200 backstroke and third in the 100 backstroke to lead a group of Sweet Home Swim Club swimmers at the 11 and Over State Championships at Amazon Pool in Eugene July 25-27.

Four swimmers competed in individual events for Sweet Home.

Naomi Gunselman, 13, placed ninth in the 100 butterfly in 1:17.21, and 12th in the 200 butterfly, in 3:03.02.

Zac Pearce, 14, swam the 50 freestyle in 28.63 and the 100 free in 1:03.93. Pierce then time trialed and swam the 100 in 1:02.65.

Calhoon, 16, swam the 100 backstroke in 1:03.20 for third place, and the 200 backstroke in 2:19.28 for second.

He also placed fourth in the 400 Intermediate Medley (4:58.46) and 11th in the 400 freestyle (4:30.61).

Kieran Schaefer, 16, took 14th in the 50 freestyle (26.16), 13th in the 200 freestyle (2:07.42) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (57.50).

Also swimming in the meet was the 400 freestyle relay team of Joel Gunselman, 18, Gabriel Gunselman, 15, Michael Simmonds, 17, and Pierce, 15. They took 15th in 4:20.45.
