Sweet Home’s swimmers hosted North Marion and Kennedy Saturday morning, June 12, in their final dual meet of the short season, winning all four competitions.
It was also Senior Day, in which the Huskies said goodbye to graduates Taryn Abbott, Hunter Calderwood, Chase Lopez, Olivia Martineau and Maren Weld, who were feeling the effects of the all-night SAFE party that ended shortly before the meet began. They received bouquets and the traditional team towel, given to departing seniors.
One of them, coming off a two-hour power nap, confided they all felt “a little sick” after a night of hamburgers and energy drinks.
But that didn’t stop the Huskies from swimming “well,” Peargin said.
“It was a great last dual meet of the season,” he said. “We’ll rest up this week for the upcoming district (which Sweet Home will host this Friday, June 18 for the boys, and Saturday, June 19, for the girls) and the state meet, which will be Saturday, June 19, at Cottage Grove.

Sweet Home at Blanchet
The meet was held at the Salem Aquatic Center, which is “one of the best pools in the area,” Peargin said.
“This was our last away meet of the season, and it was nice it could be in a quality aquatic center,” he said.
“Our kids need to really get focused from this point on. Some of the better teams have more swimmers than we have and that can really hurt us, the lack of depth.”
