Sweet Home won 20 of 22 events Friday to win a dual meet with Salem Academy and Central.
The Husky boys outscored Central 154-105, with Salem Academy a distant third with 29 points. The girls scored 118 to Central’s 87 and 74 from Salem Academy.
“I thought our overall performance was pretty good,” Coach Doug Peargin said. “We still have some illness going around our team but hopefully, within the next week, we’ll be getting over most of it.”
Both the boys and girls swept the relays. Individual winners for the boys were Victor Stupin in the 200 Freestyle (2:08.17), Don Rockstead in the 200 IM (2:10.37) and 500 Freestyle (5:27.48); Gravy Gunselman in the 50 Freestyle (24.07) and the 100 Butterfly (59.90); and Zac Pearce in the 100 Freestyle (49.82) and 100 Backstroke (1:02.73). On the girls side, Naomi Gunsleman as a double winner, taking the 100 Butterfly (1:02.78) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.83); as was McKenzie Curtis in the 50 Freestyle (28.54) and the 100 Backstroke (1:18.95) and Kimber Swanson in the 200 IM (2:39.19) and the 100 Freestyle (1:03.20). Emily Thompson was Sweet Home’s other winner, taking first in the 500 Freestyle in 6:22.79.
Peargin said he was “a little surprised” at the Huskies’ dominance.
“Hopefully, this will give us a little momentum going into our next couple of meets, which are invitationals and will have six or more teams attending them,” he said. “With only a few weeks left in the season, the team is pretty much on schedule and shaping up to have a good district meet.”
Sweet Home will next compete in the Cascade Invitational at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
