Sweet Home’s boys swim team has enjoyed a good season, going undefeated in dual meets as two defending state champions, sophomores Kieran Schaefer (100, 200 freestyle) and Jayce Calhoon (500 freestyle), and veteran senior Brinden Sanders have paced the Huskies this year.
The girls team has only lost four meets this year, so the team that Coach Doug Peargin described at the beginning of the season as the least experienced he remembers ever having has finished strong.
Sweet Home, Central and Sweet Home will be the favorites to take the district title, while Marist and Sisters are the best shots for the girls title, but nothing’s a given in this district, in which 11 teams will compete in the championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9, at the South Albany Aquatic Center.
“This is a meet that you’d better be ready to go to work and do a job or you won’t be coming back on Saturday,” Peargin said.

Sweet Home vs. North Marion
In their final tune-up before Districts, Sweet Home’s boys continued their winning ways as they beat North Marion on Thursday, Jan. 31.
The boys got first-place finishes in all 11 of their events to score 103 points to North Marion’s 47, and complete their undefeated season. The Sweet Home girls were outscored 77-66.
“It was a great overall team performance,” Peargin said. “We’re right where I think we should be going into Districts this coming weekend.”
