Sept. 14, 1921 – July 12, 2012
Sylvia “Louise” (Morgan) Ashley, 90, of Siletz, died July 12, 2012 at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
She was born Sept. 14, 1921 in Kennewick, Wash. to Hattie Anna (Johnson) Morgan and Andrew Jackson Ulysses Sydney Grant “Jack” Morgan. Her youth was spent up and down the West Coast, from Santa Clara, Calif. to Kennewick – a good deal of that time in Medford and Sprague River.
In 1944, while living in Tacoma, Wash., she met Orville Burdette “Bert” Ashley from Indianapolis, Ind. Mr. Ashley was in the Army, training at Fort Lewis. On his return from the European Theater in 1946, they were married in Portland.
The Ashleys lived and raised their family in Tacoma and Olympia, Wash. (1946- 51), Springfield, Depoe Bay and Newport, (1951-72), and retired in Eddyville (1972-81) and Sweet Home (1981-2004).
Mrs. Ashley made most of her children’s clothing when they were growing up, raised a big garden of vegetables and flowers (current crops in now), and loved to read. All sorts of crafts interested her, but mostly she loved to do them with her friends. And she loved her dogs.
She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Ann Ashley of Seattle, Cecile Louellen Ashley of Siletz and Jacklyn Bea Ashley of Toledo; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Ashley was preceded in death by her husband in 2003.
A memorial was held at the Church of Christ in Siletz on July 21, 2012.
