Tangent man killed in Sweet Home motorcycle accident

A Tangent man was killed early Tuesday morning, May 15, in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Mountain View Road and Ames Creek Drive.

Sweet Home Police Chief Jeff Lynn said his office was notified of a collision at that location at approximately 6:20 a.m. He said the callers had not witnessed the wreck, but had come upon it.

Sweet Home Police Officers and Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District Medics responded to the location. Upon arrival, officers located a single sports-style motorcycle and a single rider approximately 15 feet north of the intersection in the east side ditch.

“The rider was deceased on our arrival,” Lynn said.

The Sweet Home Police Department was assisted by the Multi Agency Investigative Team which consists of members of the Albany Police Department, the Lebanon Police Department, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police. The investigation revealed the motorcycle had been traveling north on Mountain View Road towards Ames Creek Road. Evidence indicates that the vehicle lost control as it approached and entered the intersection. Speed is believed to be a factor.

The motorcycle rider was identified as Clarence Haws, 35, of Tangent.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Sweet Home Police Officer Keenan Martin at (541) 367-5181.
