Teen committed to Youth Authority in dog slaying

Tommy Harrel, 16, was committed to the Oregon Youth Authority Thursday after entering a guilty plea to aggravated animal abuse in the first degree in a previous court appearance.

First-degree animal abuse, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree theft charges were dismissed in the plea agreement.

Harrel appeared before Judge Daniel R. Murphy Thursday morning for disposition in the case.
