Teen crashes into Ames Creek bridge rail

A Sweet Home teen was cited for careless driving after smashing into the south side of the Ames Creek bridge on Long Street Monday morning.

Nicolas Paul Moore, 17, was headed east on Long Street when he lost control of his car and struck the wooden rail on the south side of the bridge. His vehicle came to rest with one corner hanging over the edge and resting on a natural gas line. The natural gas line was not damaged.

A section of the rail was knocked up the creek by 46 feet.

“The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation,” Police Chief Burford said. “We believe there may be additional witnesses to the accident who left prior to police arrival.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact police at 367-5181.

No one was injured in the accident.
