Teens made big difference

Editor:

As a member of the Beautification Committee, I was really amazed at the progress we have made for our community. I was put in charge of planting from 4th Avenue up to the ODOT Work Center.

We had at least 500 plants and more than 500 bulbs to plant. We had a wonderful group of 12 students from Sweet Home High School, all involved in sports, who gave up a Saturday to help me get this planted, as well as a church group.

This group of teens really understood what I asked them to do and got right to it. They placed the plants on this steep hillside to make sure they were staggered well enough, then they got out the shovels and planted. We moved a lot of bark dust from the bottom to the top, then finished planting the bottom of the hill. Without this group, this project would have taken days.

I have had adults that could not understand the instructions I gave this group of teens.

So a very special thanks to the following: Skyler Bascom, Rob Helfrich, Tabatha Trahan, Erika Snow, Theo Mai, Logan Clark, Jon Labar, Casey Topp, Nathan Whitfield, Christian Whitfield, Cory Ottre, and Josh Mclean.

It was an honor to have met all of you and to have worked with you. You all now have something to look at and be proud of when you see all the plants grow and blossom through the seasons. Again, thank you so much for a job well done.
