Thanks for help for SHEM

Editor:

On Dec. 1, 2010, Peggy Blair from Sweet Home Emergency Ministries was invited to attend the annual Kiwanis-Rotary luncheon at the Sweet Home Senior Center.

For the past several years, each civic organization has collected paper products, soap, shampoo and other hygiene items.

The two groups delivered a total of 85 pounds of toilet paper and paper towels, 29 pounds of soap, shampoo and hygiene products, as well as a cash donation of $880. SHEM is very grateful to receive such generous support from the community, which helps serve the needy in our area.

On Dec. 4 and Dec. 11, the Sweet Home Postal Carriers held their bi-annual food drive for the Sweet Home area.

All of this collected food goes directly to feed hungry families in Sweet Home. This year, the combined two week collection totaled 2,914 pounds.

A big thank you goes out to each postal carrier who donated their time, those who participated on the mail routes, KFIR radio station and the Albany Democrat Herald for providing publicity announcements, as well as the many volunteers who came to help receive, sort and stock the shelves.

SHEM couldn’t possibly reach out to the growing number of hungry families without the support of such a caring community.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share so others will have a brighter Christmas. May God continue to bless each one of you with a Happy New Year.
