Thanks to helpful Sweet Home folks

Editor:

A commendation to two citizens of Sweet Home. Last Saturday, May 17, my car overheated while climbing the Spanish Fork Canyon highway of Utah. I foolishly attempted to make U-turn on the busy highway to coast back down mountain, car stalled in the turn, straddling a double yellow line with fast traffic zooming by both ways.

My predicament was noticed by a couple from your city who were traveling in Utah. They turned around, helped push my car to side of highway. Then I attempted to coast. Traveled a few miles, lost momentum. Looked around and found that helpful couple had followed. After getting me off highway again but finding their cell phone out of range, they drove me to my home in Springville, Utah.

I offered them compensation for their gas but knew such kind of people would never accept.

I failed to ask their names, only conversation revealed they live in Sweet Home, Ore., and that the young man is an X-ray technician and repair man for GE Healthcare, serving Oregon. If you have a little space, I wish to recognize these citizens of your community who helped this 82-year-old man and his beagle hound out of a spot.
