The Point Restaurant, and owners Mike and Mira Hall served a Thanksgiving holiday meal with all the trimmings to some 480 people, some from as far away as Salem and Bend.
The event raised $2533.75 through donations from people who contributed to Sweet Home Emergency Ministries as they partook of the free meal.
“This will certainly help SHEM provide enough food for the families who are in desperate need of emergency food assistance,” said Cindy Rice of SHEM. “Special thanks to Mike and Mira Hall for their organizational skills in planning an event of this size in our small community and for getting the many sponsoring businesses and corporations to donate the turkey and trimmings. It was a pleasure to spend my Thanksgiving Day with such big-hearted people. Mike and Mira Hall were clearly in their element.”
Rice said the volunteers who helped put on the meal – doing meal prep and cooking, washing dishes, setting and busing tables, greeting and seating people, serving meals, etc. – included:
the Halls and their son Nick, Charlotte and Lee deVries, Connie Conner, Tina and Devin Larsen, Todd Branson, Ruth Bond, Dennis Brown, Yvonne and Verlin Weaver, Keith Groat, Gary Cuomo, Jann Mitchell, Margaret Ellis, Bob Oar and Doris Lafond, in addition to Rice herself.
