A fund-raising “thermometer” for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam, at the corner of Highways 20 and 228, reflects the club’s announcement Monday, April 27, that it has met its second fund-raising goal – to raise $60,000 by May 31.
As of Friday, April 24, the club had exceeded that goal, six weeks early. The fund-raising efforts reflected on the thermometer aim to restore the Sweet Home branch to sound financial footing and head off a threat of closure. Senior Branch Director Dave Bauer said Subway has joined local businesses pledging support. It will donate $1 for every foot-long sandwich sold through December.
Other businesses providing similar support are Hoys Hardware, OK County Feed, The Point, Spoleto’s Pizzeria, Steelhead Strength and Fitness, Thriftway, A&W, Periwinkle Provisions and local hairdressers who donate $1 from each tip. The club is holding its Spring Auction at 5 p.m Saturday at the Lebanon clubhouse.
“The fund-raising is not over yet,” Bauer said. We still need to establish another $40,000 in pledged donations by the end of June. That’s aobut 350 people giving just $10 a month.” Pledges can be made at http://www.bgcgreatersantiam.org/get-involved.
