The Breakfast Spot, New Provider of Fresh a.m. Eats Opens in Sweet Home

Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, and now Sweet Home has a new provider of fresh a.m. eats.

Sara Rasor, 28, co-owner of The Breakfast Spot, a food cart that sits in the Hoy’s Hardware parking lot, was motivated by what she perceived as a lack of competitors.

“We have no breakfast in this town,” Rasor said. “Not early morning breakfast and not easily accessible, especially for all of our loggers, drivers, all of that. So we wanted something for them.”

So Rasor, along with Shelbie Frye, 34, a fellow bartender at the Downtown Lounge who moved to Sweet Home from Missouri in 2017, started The Breakfast Spot, buying the former Heroes 9-11 Coffee trailer.

The two of them started working together at the Downtown Lounge four years ago, and have each worked in food service for over a decade.

“It takes a lot of guts to go out on your own,” Rasor said. “It’s our money on the line now. And even beyond just the financial risk, in today’s day and age with social media, opening ourselves up to the criticism, that’s very scary in my opinion. But I think just working as many positions as we have throughout various food services, we’ve kind of had a good chance to prepare for it.”

Currently, The Breakfast Spot is open Monday through Thursday from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m., or until they are sold out.

Rasor says their goal is to eventually be open seven days a week at 2:30 a.m. to “catch all of the early guys,” and stay open for lunch, closing around 2 p.m.

“The nice part about that is we both have kids, so at that point we’re able to not miss school pickups, rehearsals, practices and games,” she said. “We’re there to put the kids to bed every night. So we’re really excited about that.”

Every day The Breakfast Spot sells homemade jalapeno cheddar biscuits and gravy, and french toast sticks. There are rotating specials daily. Every night, the menu for the next day gets posted on Facebook.

“Everything is cheap and easy and as accessible as possible,” Rasor said. “It’s obviously handheld and easy to eat while you’re driving.”

The gravy in the biscuits and gravy dish comes on the side in a little cup. “So you can put the gravy in your cup holder and dunk your biscuit in it while you’re driving down the road,” Rasor noted.

She thought that the Hoy’s parking lot was a good location for the new business. “For the most part, the bulk of the big rigs that are going to come in are going to be in the early mornings before Hoy’s is open,” she said. “And at that point you’ve got a nice easy pull-through driveway for the big rigs. And there’s some parking for regular passenger cars.”

Those with an early morning appetite can check out The Breakfast Spot at 3041 Main St.
