Thomas D. Hayes

Thomas Delbert Hayes, 77, died on Feb. 2, 2006 at his home in Salem.

He was born in Gravett, Ark., on Feb. 13, 1928 to Chester (Jack) and Anna Hayes. The Hayes family migrated west in 1938, settling in Portland. The family later moved to Lowell where Mr. Hayes graduated from high school in 1946.

Mr. Hayes moved to Sweet Home in 1957 where he farmed with his father and brother, Bill. He settled in Salem in 1969.

Mr. Hayes had many careers during his lifetime, including powder monkey for a project overseen by the Army Corps of Engineers, farmer, logger and contract milk hauler for Darigold. He later worked for Flavor Pac until his retirement in 2003.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Mr. Hayes is survived by his daughter, Patricia Miller and son-in-law David Miller of Gaston; two granddaughters; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were held on Feb. 7 at the City View Cemetery in Salem.

Arrangements were under the direction of Keizer Funeral Chapel.
