Tiger wrestlers ninth at state meet

Sweet Home Junior High wrestlers finished ninth recently at the junior high state wrestling championships held at Woodburn.

More than 600 wrestlers from 93 teams competed, according to SHHS coach Steve Thorpe.

The Tigers are coached by Ken Weld, Joe Rosa, Jon Dearborn and Louie Dix.

“This was really an extension of their regular season,” Coach Thorpe said. “The guys took a week off after the regular season and then came back to get ready for this meet.”

Coach Thorpe said he was proud of the young grapplers.

“They competed very well at a very tough meet,” Coach Thorpe said. “Nearly every Sweet Home wrestler scored points and helped the team earn a ninth place finish.”

Three Tigers placed: Tyler Holley, 75 pounds, third; Brock Crocker, 95 pounds, third; Taylor Tagle, 80 pounds, sixth.

“Hats off to the coaches and to the wrestlers,” Coach Thorpe said.
