Out of gas by the second half, the Huskies boys soccer team lost 4-0 at Stayton on Thursday in their first full-length game of the year.
The Huskies lost only 1-0 against Stayton at the season-opening jamboree a week earlier, and they held Stayton to one goal in the first half on Thursday.
“We were playing a little tired,” Coach Al Grove said. “I thought we played well the first half.”
The Huskies had some good shots on goal, he said, but they hit the post and crossbar. The goalie bobbled the ball once, but the Huskies couldn’t connect to get it into the goal.
Overall, Stayton didn’t outshoot the Huskies by much, Grove said, and the Eagles had a game on Tuesday last week to get back into the swing of things.
“I thought Dakota (Snow) did a good job at keeper during the first half,” Grove said.
The Huskies play Scappoose and at Yamhill-Carlton this week.
