Tobey McGarry bowls 300

Tobey McGarry bowled his second 300 game during Tuesday Night Valley League at Sweet Home Lanes on Feb. 5.

“I worked late, just came down like any other night,” McGarry said. He bowled a 742 series, 215, 300 and 227, bowling above his 203 average.

McGarry bowled his first 300 on Feb. 4, 1997.

“A lot of luck is involved, at least for me it was,” McGarry said. “Some people can do it just naturally.”

Other than luck, McGarry stresses the importance of practice to bowling well.

McGarry, 24, has been bowling some 17 years, starting at about seven in the junior league at Sweet Home Lanes, where he has bowled most of his life.

“I took last year off,” McGarry said. “I didn’t even bowl last year. I was working too far out of town, so I couldn’t bowl.”

“I’m excited about the second one because now I know the first one wasn’t just a fluke or freak of nature or something,” McGarry said.

McGarry bowls for “fun, just something to do to come down and have fun for one night of the week,” McGarry said. There’s a lot of people at the bowling center that he doesn’t get a chance to see or talk to except during league.

McGarry has received awards for bowling 700 series and in torunaments.
