Tractor rollover kills operator

Linn County Sheriff’s deputies last week were looking into a fatal tractor accident that occurred Tuesday, Oct. 21, at about 1:28 p.m. in the 41000 block of Upper Berlin Road.

The operator of a red 1950’s Ford 8N tractor, identified as Doris Eilleen Jennings, 47, of Lebanon was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Sheriff Bruce Riley, Jennings and James Ronald Royer, 49, of Scio, were working together to remove a tree.

Jennings had a chain attached to the back of the tractor and was using it to pull out an oak tree. Royer told deputies he was standing nearby and witnessed the rear tractor tires start to spin, Riley said.

Royer said Jennings applied more throttle to the engine, which caused the front of the tractor to lift up and flip over on top of her.

Upon arrival, deputies found Jennings pinned under the tractor, Riley said. Jennings suffered severe head injuries from the accident.

There is no indication that drugs or alcohol was a factor in the accident, he said.

Linn County deputies were assisted by members of the Lebanon Fire Department. AAsum-Dufor Funeral Home removed the body from the scene.
