Trask, Gourley, Goble, Gerson win City Council election; marijuana sales allowed and taxed

Winners of the Nov. 8 Sweet Home City Council election include incumbents Dave Trask, Diane Gerson and James Goble and newcomer Lisa Gourley.

Trask placed first in the election followed by Gourley and Goble. They will serve four-year terms.

Gerson finished fourth and will serve a two-year term.

The results could change as the Linn County Clerk’s office receives ballots turned in at other counties.

Voters also allowed recreational and medical producers and sellers to operate in Sweet Home.

Voters turned down a measure prohibiting any new medical marijuana outlets 2,004 votes to 1,479.

A measure to prohibit the production, wholesaling and retail of marijuana and marijuana products failed 1,901 to 1,570.

Voters approved a 3-percent tax on the sale of recreational marijuana and marijuana products 2,651 to 830.

These results also may vary as the Linn County Clerk’s office receives ballots turned in at other counties.
