East Linn Treasure Seekers has just had their first organized metal detecting hunt at the Sweet Home Events Center.
The club purchased and buried common coins for the first hunt and silver for the second hunt. At the end of the day participants could go back to both hunt sites and detect as long as they wanted, always keeping what they found.
It made for a fun day with lots of great prizes given, like one-ounce silver bars and one-ounce silver rounds, to name a few. One member found the 1922 Peace Round that the club purchased and hid for the hunt.
The next hunt for the club is going to be a night hunt – no lights allowed except for glow sticks to keep from running into each other and used as boundaries for safety. It should be a blast! What a fun way to get out and enjoy sharing time with other enthusiasts while getting a little exercise to boot.
All age groups are involved and it’s the thrill of the hunt that gets us out there time after time – finding items that have been lost for years upon years, sometimes, and guessing what the back story may have been is part of the fun.
It’s great to live in an area that is rich with history and buried treasure. As they say, one man’s junk is another man’s or woman’s treasure!
Be sure and see our Thank you ads on pages 2 and 3 in today’s copy of The New Era.
