A capacity crowd got serious Saturday at the 16th annual Trees for Scholarships auction, giving what organizer MarySue Reynolds said was the “very best year ever.”
“We grossed $43,500,” Reynolds said, adding that expenses to put on the event run about $8,000. The 16 Christmas trees, decorated by local designers, sold for prices ranging from $600 to $4,000.
“The funds we raised last night, in addition to earnings we use from the many Endowed Scholarships we manage and from donations given to the Sweet Home Alumni Foundation, will provide scholarships to every qualified student that applies,” Reynolds said.
In a new development this year, she added, students who qualify for a SHAF scholarship will automatically be awarded the scholarship for a second consecutive year as long as they stay eligible.
“We appreciate the support we receive from the Sweet Home Community, our alumni, and friends of our alumni who continue to support this great cause,” Reynold said.
