Brandi Trewin last week committed to play volleyball at Umpqua Community College.
She signed a letter of intent Tuesday morning at Sweet Home High School, flanked by her family.
She became the second Husky volleyball player this year to move on to college athletics, after Tiffany Miller signed earlier with Southern Oregon University. They are in addition to six others who have committed to playing college next season:Annie Whitfield, Chris Carpenter, Jasmin Yoder, Emily Riggs, Scottie Stockman and Nick Hall.
Trewin said she was contacted by e-mail by Umpqua coaches and visited the school the next day.
“I liked it,” she said. “It was a pretty campus and I liked the girls I met. I liked the people who worked there.”
Trewin, a 5-10 middle and outside hitter who has played volleyball for nine years, including three years of club volleyball, said she thought her personality stood out to the Umpqua coaches, who saw her at a tournament.
“I’m energetic,” she said.
She said she’d also had some interest from Linn-Benton and Chemetketa community colleges and a college in New York.
She plans to major in general education.
