Trip to Douglas a tough one for girls hoops team in 74-31 loss

01/09/12

The Huskies lost 74-31 to Douglas on the road Friday evening in girls basketball.

“You could tell we had Christmas break,” said Coach Kerstin Brosterhous. “Sabrina Davis was out, so that was kind of a downer from the beginning. There was no spark.”

Caytlin Gillespie picked up point guard duties and had to play every second of the game, Brosterhous said. She was tired, and “she did great being thrown into it.”

But she suspects that Davis’ absence had an impact on the game for the Huskies, she said. Davis triggers the other girls on the team. With Davis, it might have different.

“Offensively, we weren’t too bad,” Brosterhous said. “We ran things. Our turnovers and errors were mostly our own fault.”

On defense, the team wasn’t where it has been trying to be, aggressive, Brosterhous said, and it was difficult to get anything going.

The Huskies trailed 17-6 after the first quarter and 36-13 at halftime. They trailed 55-25 at the end of the third.
