Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance district and Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for a motor vehicle collision in the 44700 block of North River Drive and Quartzville Road, right past “second bridge”, May 23.

According to Lieutenant Brian Hardy from the Linn County Sheriff’s Department, John Patton, 81, was driving north on Quartzville road in his 2004 F150 and was preparing to turn onto North River Drive.

Patton was behind a truck and camp trailer, which hindered his ability to see if the turn was clear. As he began to turn, Kyle Shilling, 22, was driving his 1997 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Quartzville Road approaching the intersection.

Schilling estimated his speed to be around 40-45 mph. Schilling stated he attempted to avoid hitting Patton’s truck by swerving to the right, at which point Patton’s truck struck the left front wheel area. Both trucks ended up against a guardrail with significant damage to both vehicles.
