Two Sweet Home men were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near Waterloo Friday evening, Oct. 30.
Tanner Paul Lee, 20, was eastbound with passenger Justyn Joseph Peck, 21, coming back from Lebanon in a 1997 Chevrolet pickup Lee had purchased two days earlier.
A woman pulled out in front of them at Cascade Drive, Peck said.
“I tried to swerve to go into the center lane,” Lee said. She must have panicked and pulled out further. His truck clipped her car, a Honda Accord.
“We went up on two wheels,” Lee said. We think it spun the car at the back of the pickup, and that’s what flipped us.”
His pickup rolled eight times before coming to rest in the ditch.
Peck was able to get out of the vehicle, but Lee was stuck. Peck helped get him out. Medics took the men to Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
“I was there till last night (Sunday),” Lee said. He had a road rash on his left side. A piece of glass went into the middle of it and other into his left arm. He underwent surgery to remove the glass.
Peck had a dislocated shoulder, a couple of cuts on his head and a blown-out eardrum.
Oregon State Police cited Jessica Taylor Broughton, 18, of Lebanon, for failure to obey a traffic control device.
