Sweet Home High School’s equestrian team sent two riders to the state competition at the Deschutes County Expo Center in Redmond May 20-21 after competing in three Willamette District meets earlier in the season.
This year’s team, coached by Marsha Blankenship, was made up of seniors Jessica Blankenship and Morgan Jefferson, sophomore Britanni Crompton and freshman Maureen Pappin.
Blankenship qualified for state in the poles event, but did not post a time. Crompton qualified in barrels and individual flags, finishing 38th out of 48 in barrels and 22nd out of 34 in flags.
The Huskies’ results in earlier events included:
Third District Meet (April 15-18) – Team finished 15th out of 34 in team penning and 11th in hand obstacle race.
Second District Meet (March 25-28) – Team finished 12th out of 21 in hand obstacle relay. Crompton finished seventh out of 65 in individual flags and fourth out of 83 in barrels. Blankenship was third out of 78 in poles and 15th out of 65 in individual flags. They combined to place 11th out of 61 in two man birangle.
First District Meet (Feb. 25-28) – Team finished 12th out of 21 in the hand obstacle relay. Crompton placed sixth out of 71 in keyhole, third out of 63 in individual flags and 11th out of 85 in figure eight.
Blankenship placed 11th out of 76 in poles, and the two combined for an 11th place out of 59 in two man birangle.
