Update: National Guard troops now returning April 15

Local Oregon National Guard troops are now scheduled to return to the Sweet Home and Lebanon area Wednesday, April 15.

County Commissioner Will Tucker is encouraging Sweet Home residents to hang their American flags on April 15 to welcome local troops, whose unit will be demobilized in Redmond.

Troops are expected to return to Sweet Home and Lebanon on Highway 20, said Tucker, who is making an effort to arrange a welcome for the soldiers. Details of the National Guard’s plans have been sketchy and somewhat fluid, but Tucker has been working with the Freedom Riders motorcycle group to arrange an escort for any local GI’s returning to the area.
