“We were very happy with the way our kids wrestled,” Coach Steve Thorpe said. “We had three champions and four in the finals. We had some very good wrestling.”
Freshman Shane Vandehei, 103, showed improved confidence in his championship match.
“Shane is really coming along,” Coach Thorpe said. “His maturity level is very good for a freshman.”
Senior Andrew Swanson, 125, won his tournament bracket for the third time of his high school career.
“He’s really forcing his opponents to match his fast, high-paced style,” Coach Thorpe said.
Kyle Temple, 140 pound senior, scored a major decision in the final round and continues to escalate scoring for the Huskies.
“As a team, this was one of our better tournaments,” Coach Thorpe said. “We’ve looked good since Reeser’s tournament. We lost to both Lebanon and Silverton in dual meets but our wrestlers came out on top off their guys here. We avenged some of our losses from earlier in the season.”
